WESTMINSTER TOUR AND VISIT TO THE NATIONAL GALLERY

Quick Details

Tour Westminster and the National Gallery

The walk starts from Westminster tube station situated near Thames riverside beside the Big Ben. The tour is just 800 m so it’s not hard for children.

Despite the shortness, the walk has plenty of things to see. Palace of Westminster, just outside the tube, is one of the best examples of neo-gothic architecture in existence, in the beginning, a Royal residence and then the seat of the United Kingdom Parliament.

The clock tower known as Big Ben, stands out in a majestic way. If we turn back for a second we find in front of us another icon of the capital…the London Eye, the high Ferris wheel. We continue the tour visiting Westminster Abbey, where since 1066 all the kings are crowned.

We set out for Whitehall where we find a lot of important monuments and palaces in succession, among which are the famous premier residence at 10 Downing Street and the Royal Horseguards.

At the end of the long way we arrive at the huge Trafalgar Square, the nerve centre of the city with its famous Nelson Column in the middle, fountains and moreover the National Gallery which hosts a very rich collection of 2.300 paintings from the middle of XII to last century.

National Gallery admission is free and depending on your preferences and time constraints, we have several routes to admire and explain the masterpieces and artworks. Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo are just a few names among the bigger artists who made National Gallery unmissable.

At the end of the tour there will be the possibility to get on the 50’ historical two-level bus from Trafalgar to Tower of London, passing St. Pauls Cathedral and many other monuments.
